Kunti Shree Thapa (b. 1990) is a freelance visual artist from Nepal. At the early stage of her artistic journey, Kunti Shree Thapa worked on creative self-portraits with smoky effects which was part of her expirenment works. Infusing facial expressions with smoke-effects, her idea was that what we see as an expression in diffrent from what a person perceivs beneath. Later her works from the series “making identity” were seen as part of presenting and questioning the stereotype women beauty and standard and perception in the society. Exploring inner thoughts, social values and experimenting concepts and presentation, Kunti’s latest series “urban scape” talks about the present life style (popular visual culture) of Kathmandu city and its existence in the future. Artist visualizes her idea of everyday living experiences based on the context of social issue and modern lifestyle. Kunti deals with the various mediums such as Painting, Installation and Performance.

Kunti sheds light on the contemporary human existence and experiences which forms the basis of urban-culture of Nepal and not just mere images of cities. Through the depiction of urban landscapes of Kathmandu valley in the artwork, the artist is questioning the contemporary human activities and the juxtaposition between the historic and modern way of life.

Her work is quite paradoxical in nature as it reflects how our cities and lives have been transformed by creating new existence and human values which seems to be anomalous to our understanding of constructs of nature.
