Urmila Upadhyay Garg
Born in 1939 AD, she did her Government Diploma in Art from J. J. School of Art Mumbai India. Then she went on to receive certificate of painting from Ecole Nationale Superoure des Beaux Art from Paris and Graphics at Atelier 17, Paris France. She also learnt restoration of fresco at Institution Centrale del Restaauro, Rome. She travelled under a UNESCO fellowship in various European and African nations. She taught printing and painting at University of Alberta Dept. of Extension, Edmonton Canada. She is the founder and executive director of Kala-Guthi, Nepal Creative Art Trust since its foundation and she is the President of Tulsi Meher Ashram Nepal. She is the fellow of the Ashoka Fellowship USA, Life member of State Council Standing Committee (Raj Sabha) Nepal, and trusty of Nepal Charka Pracharak Gandhi- Tulsi Smarak Mahaguthi. She won prize in painting from J.J. School of Art Mumbai India, Gold Medal in painting from the Cite Internationale de Paris France. She has done 30 solo shows from 1959 A.D. to 1989 A.D. in different countries such as Nepal, India, England, USA and Canada. She has done numerous group shows, selected are Realites Nouvelles, Muse D’Art Moderne Paris, Exhibition in Canada 1991 A.D., ‘Dhaka in Modern’ at Kala-Guthi and Cottage Industry Dept. of Nepal, exhibition at Calgary Canada 1992 A.D., ‘In the memory of martyrs’ at RNAC building 1992 A.D., International craft fair at Bhrikuti Mandap Kathmandu 1992 A.D., ‘Tulshi Meher Centenary Celebration at Manohara Kathmandu 1995 A.D., inauguration of Gallery at Kalaguthi premises and craft exhibition 2001 A.D., Exhibition at Suraj Kund Hariyana India sponsored by the Indian Embassy 2007 A.D.
